Frequently asked questions

Can Calculus be used without registering?

Yes. A guest can practise without creating an account, up to a daily limit on the number of tests. Guest results are not saved.

Which exercise types are available?

Three: Integers, Fractions and Decimals. Each supports addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

Can a child practise a single operation?

Yes. Choose one of the four operations, or a random mix of all of them.

How many questions does a test have?

Between 1 and 15, chosen before the test starts. A few digit combinations cap the maximum lower, because too few distinct questions exist to fill a longer test without repeating.

Can the time limit be changed?

Yes. The time limit is set in minutes and seconds before the test begins.

Are the questions different every time?

Yes. Each test is generated when it starts, from the settings currently selected, rather than drawn from a fixed list.

How are answers given?

Either typed on an on-screen keypad suited to the exercise type, or selected from multiple options. The number of options is configurable when multiple choice is used.

Are results saved?

For registered users, yes — results are stored and can be reviewed on the statistics page. Guest results are not saved.

What does registering add?

Saved results and personal statistics, a profile, and the ability to create challenges and join challenges shared by others.

How do challenges work?

A registered user creates a challenge from a configuration and shares it. Other users can join it and play the same challenge.

Does Calculus show worked solutions?

No. Calculus reports whether each answer was correct and the result of the test. It does not currently produce step-by-step worked solutions.

Is practice with negative numbers available?

Not yet. Practice with negative numbers is built but is not enabled for users. It is not part of the three exercise types available today.

Is Calculus aligned to a specific national curriculum?

No. Calculus is not certified against or aligned to any national curriculum. The adult or learner chooses settings that suit the level the child is working at.
